Hey all,

Posted this over at Ulthuan.net, but like to get the other side of the coin as well...

Got a mini tourny with my gaming group this weekend, are playing 1k lists for the first time so they will be quick, brutal games and we have not agreed to any hard or soft caps, no comp scores etc..

So I have Ogres (very bad at 1k), Dogs of War or my High Elves...so thinking I will probally bring my elves. I am contemplating a list of one of the below, what do you guys think? I know I will be taking on ALOT of shooting and magic, hence the eagles and fast cav etc.., we havent ruled out special characters as well.... (hasnt been mentioned, so fair cop I say!)

Very Heavy Magic
Dragon Mage, Level 2, Silver Wand, Amulet of fire
Mage, Level 2, Barded steed.
10x Archer
Tiranoc Chatriot
Geat Eagle
8 White Lions, Mus, Standard, Banner of Sorcery.
999 points.

Deathstar + speed
Caradyan
15 White Lions, FC, Amulet of Light, Lion Standard
10 Archers
5 Dragon Princes
Great Eagle
Great Eagle
Tiranoc Chatriot
Tiranoc Chatriot
1k on the dot.

All Cav Dogs of War list (+ dragon!!)
Merc Capt (general), Lance, Barded Warhorse, Shield
Paymaster, Lance, Barded Warhorse, Shield
Asarnil
5x Volands Venators
5x Heavy Cav, Barding
5x Light Cav, Shield, Spear
Take the Dragon list - nobody else will be expecting it.
Only problem with that list is beast cowers will own me hard.
Taking dragons in 1k is a good way not to make new friends.
All the lists will be nasty, I am expecting doomwheels, Hell Pit aboms, dwarf gunlines etc..

<2k is the only place that Dogs of War are strong. Might as well make the most of it.
I agree, 1750 is about the perfect points value for Dogs of War.
But in 1000 points, a 460 point dragon is a little too much to me. You're either going to have you Dragon shot out by a cannon, or he's going to shred your opponents army.
It's a bit too much of all eggs in one basket.
^ exactly, why I am liking the look of the Caradyran list the most, its the most balanced.
The dragon would be fun, but there are fluff issues - why would he hire onto such a tiny army? would the army even be able to afford him etc?
this goes back to my rants when Kurt Helborg appeared on a griffin behind me in a one thousand points game many years ago. Small armies should be kept to small army themes.

On the other hand, no one who thinks like this ever competes in tournaments, so knock yourself out Wink
I love the dragon/Cav list as well. Something I am looking into as well. I want you to use it and than battle report that so I can see how it does. Smile

I can fluff my way into anything too!
