Well, I ended up playing two games. (I had a bye the first round.) The dogs finished 1-0-1.
My first game was against tomb kings. In the warbands rules, they have a nasty little special rule! Any unit with full command may cast one of the TK incantations as a bound spell! I had no wizard in my force, and so had to contend with three or four bound spells every turn. Many of my units were blasted early and often.
Towards the end of the game, I had only my unit of maneaters left. The 'belchers had been blown to bits, and the duelists with the captain panicked and ran of the board. The other duelists sacrificed themselves to lead a chariot squadron astray. The maneaters proved tough enough, though. They whittled down the enemy skeleton warriors and archers, and contested an objective in the middle of the board, and eked out a draw.
In the third game, I faced a lizardman army. I was really worried about how long the ogres would hold up to poisoned darts, and so ran them screened behind the duelists. When they got close enough, the 'belchers took care of the skinks with their cannons. The maneaters slammed into a block of saurus and chewed them up. The other duelists got a unit of kroxigors to chase them into the woods, and kept them tied up for most of the rest of the game. The pirates won!
In the end, it was enough for a second place finish out of 5.
