Hello guys, I need some suggestions to make some Ungol/Dolgan Human light cavalry archers, which will essentailly be a platic updated version of the Kislev Ungols.
This unit will fit in with my army perfectly, but I need to make sure I do it correctly. Id like to use Kislev type un-barded horses, so im wondering if anyone else besides kislev used those same style horses?
Anyhow, I need these types of bits to make this work=
-Bare chested torsos
-A few torsos with very plain or simple coverings, like leather or fabric shirts, similiar to the ungol cheif..
-bare arms holding bows (goblin wolf rider arms, suggested by m4rc..)
-As for heads, im thinking the New Chaos marauder heads with braids, they look Ungol, after all, the Kurgan tribes are related to the Ungols...
-Horse rider legs, the Ungols used baggy pants, but I dont know of any similiar to that....any suggestions?
And that would be it....They would look essentially like more modern, or maybe slightly larger Ungols....I will probably mix them right in with the Kislev ungols, to give a sort of variation that would give them a realistic effect....
i use the new maurater as your light horsemen
then you have the guys and horses
you don't want to add goblin arms on the figures lol they look like little girl arms
keep the marauder big men with big arms oooooh yea
opps sorry !!
then add green stuff for the baggy pants and stuff
I agree with Kera on using Marauder horsemen, some of the new heads there would work very well. If you want upper bodies with less armour, just use normal Marauders. I can't remember suggesting using goblin arms, but they would probably work out just fine. They shouldn't be as muscular as the marauders anyway.
If you want unbarded horses and don't go the Marauder Cavalry route, you can purchase old style Pistolier horses I think from the Games Workshop Direct Order under the Bits->Mounts section.
If I didn't have so many spare Empire Knights lying around, that's probably what I would do. Use Pistoliers as Knights (Convert barding onto their horses) and purchase some of the plain horses and convert up some riders.
Bare chests I think you can't stray far from Marauders.
For arms, what you could try is Beastherd arms. Scrape off the fur they have near their shoulders, and you should be set I think. You'd have to get your bows from somewhere though. You might also be able to use them for chests as well (Again, scraping off any fur).
As for legs. I guess you're probably going to have to sculpt your own/add pants to some other legs.
Pistolier horses might be a good idea as well, they are bigger than the old ones, and have no barding either. Beastmen arms could work, then you just need the bows from whatever plastic kit has them (eg. Empire Archers, Goblins) and cut them at the wrist. For heads, use either the Marauder Horsemen heads without helmets or White Wolf heads. The Legs is the tricky part. You could either use legs from the Pistoliers or Marauder Horsemen box and then GS them to cover the armour.

you agree big men and big arms ohhhhhhh !!!!!!!

My ungol horsemen pictured above use the marauder horsemen. I scrapped off a lot of the spikes and chaosy symbols. I then used Goblin Bow arms (the scale is just right actually - except some of their hands / fingers being quite large) and quivers. Heads were both from the Marauder cavalry box, marauder infantry box and White Wolf sprue. You could even use the odd furry hat head from the new Empire archer sprue.
Leather torso's work from the militia box, but the issue of getting unarmoured legs is too much to overcome IMO, unless you decide to cut off the torsos from the marauder horsemen.
As for Winged Lancers, pistolier horses, legs and torsos work well.
Uryens De Crux- VERY cool link!!!!! I'm liking those. I actually found a book in a hobby shop about the Old Polish Hussars, that the Kislev winged lancers are created after. Those Polish winged hussars were vEry cool!
Anyhow, WARLORD- What legs did you use on those??? It was YOUR thread that I saw!!! I thought it was m4cr1II3n's thread....
I actually think yours look Great!! the goblin arms work VERY well, since they already use the short angled bow...
The only thing I wish is that I had some extra Kislev horses, because they are going to be RIGHT NEXT to the old style ones, and I dont want them to stand out too much. If I was doing a COMPLETELY updated ungol army, I would TOTALLY use those horses, or pistoleir horses..since they look better.
I think the marauder heads with no helmets work the best, since the marauders already look sort of ungolish...with braids and all..
Also, as for Torsos and legs, The marauder infantry torsos seem to have Less armoru than the cavalry torsos, but isnt there something in 40k that is completey bare-chested?
Maybe catachan??
As for the legs, I guess you guys are right, Greenstuff might be my only option....
The close thing i could find to bare chested is the beastmen. they have little bit of fur to them, but I have a feeling you could work around them. Don't know if you really want to got though the trouble of buying other box to make them.
As for the old riding horse, Games Workshop still sales them (Medieval Horses) under bit, mounts. Hope that helps.
yea beast men will work !! they even have a necklace too
