Coming in a bit later then usual is Issue #3 of Gold an Glory the ezine of Dogs of War Online.

In this issue you will find the usual fare for the mercenary general, but you'll notice that it is a bit light on the content side... Baumann informed me that there were many broken promises of art that was alluded to and articles.

Suffice of to say I'm going to be stepping in to help out on all facets of the ezine and will most likely be doing the layout for it. that does not solve one key problem, that of output for the ezine in terms of content.

I dont want to belabor the point as Baumann and the team did a fairly good job all things considered. As many of you know I also produce the Word of Hashut for Chaos Dwarfs Online. In order to do so I'm going to need everyone's help as I cannot do it all. So when the Submissions Coordinator comes calling with deadline, the only answer I should be hearing is "Its done and in!" Smile

So enough on that and enjoy the fruits of the team's efforts. And know that going forward we WILL be taking this up several notches in the design department. In fact so much so I look at my work on Gold and Glory #1 and think "Man, I can do better then that!"

Consider the gauntlet thrown down to the community as a whole, how will you respond?

So here it is Issue #3 focusing on Duelists, Army building and letters to the forum, enjoy the read!

Willmark
Picks up gauntlet, places in pocket. Looks to his computer and some ideas.

Baumann - good job
I'll fess up, I failed to send my stuff in. I shall begin scourging myself now Sad
Hmm I really liked the tactita item. Maybe I should start writing up a mordheim warband article ...
This is exactly the response I hoped for help make it great guys!
I don't get why I am still listed as submissions coordinator here though, I don't even think I have been into the G&G forum since issue two Huh

In any case, I will officially be stepping down from that post now, I have a lot to think about with my studies and writing my own army books at the moment. I probably could still be doing it, but then someone would have to remind me to remember to remind people, which seems like an unnecessary step in the command chain.
If anyone is interested in taking my position, they should speak to Baumann (if he doesn't take over it himself). I can ofc still offer submissions myself, just need someone to remind me to do it (like a good submissions coordinator, ie, not me).

Still, great work on this issue, all things considered.
Huh I thought i'd taken you out? QUICK Willmark, recall all issues to correct that and remove all reference of M4c Tongue
I dig it. It did seem a little lite though. Needs some more stuff. If you guys are looking for someone else to put articles togther I'd be willing to throw down at it; but due to my Podcast I don't know that I'll have the time to fully develop them. If you gave me an assignment like "Do article on making this or painting that or using this." I would be able to do that though; or at least give it a good crack.
Well looks like we need a new submissions coordinator.

JPF- perhaps we'll contact you for an article.
Cool issue guys. Pity about some of the content falling through, but unfortunately that's the way things go sometimes with the internet world.
Good read as always guys... Although I don't have much to contribute I know that Warhammer-Empire is running a historical online campaign set in Tilea next summer... Maybe they would be willing to coordinate with a summer issue.
Good to see it out!
This is a really good one Smile! Well done to every one who contributed to this Big Grin!
Is it just me or is the writer's article on Vespero's vendetta totally wrong on the fear side? See page 78 of the warhammer rulebook. Because Vespero's Vendetta are led by a character that causes fear they gain the same immunities, very useful against undead, ogres and other fear causing enemies. Also, because they contain a fear causing character, they aren't very vulnerable to charges, so people will tend to not charge them as you need to test for fear. These only count if Vespero is still alive of course. The unit doesn't cause fear but they do get immunity. However, you only count as having a unit strength of 1 for fear causing if you beat an enemy. Vespero is also good in challenges, as the enemy would have to take a fear test, and if failed the enemy could only hit him on 6's. This, combined with a WS6, S4,T4, AND 4 attacks as well as I6 make hime quite formidable. Also, the pistol definately counts as a hand weapon so you would get an extra attack, pg 56 of the warhammer rulebook.
I would also like to say how much I enjoyed the issue of Gold and Glory. I just thought I should defend, what I think is a good unit in some cases, and a cool unit. Also, I do agree that the unit is overcosted. They should be 90 points rather than the 125 points. The pistols are definitely worth it when using duelists, but if you are fighting an elite target, then send in Vespero's Vendetta, as they are the A-Team of duelists, but without the guns........

I believe you are correct on the fear rules , however, Vespero still is not that great in challenges. He will bounce off of any purpose-built combat character. And without armor, T4 is not going to save him for long.
They have a 6+ armour save in combat. Saying they don't have an armour save .....pfft......
Also, I have found that Vespero is good in a <2000 pt game where you can't have a lord. Get him to fight the other guys general and chances are he will kill him, but Vespero has a low chance of dying as he has the fear rule so if the other guys general fails a leadership test he will need 6's to hit Vespero.

I guess if you consider 6+ armor to be good and reliable... pffft....

The chances of Vespero dealing with a geared up Dwarf Thane, Chaos hero, Vampire thrall, are really slim. Points are always precious and I don't see Vespero's unit being a worthwhile investment in points when pistol duelists will get much more value for points spent.

It does depend on the evironment you play in, but anything competitive is not going to use Vespero in my opinion.
