Q. Where can I find the most up to date Dogs of War and Regiments
of Renown army lists?

A. In Warhammer Chronicles 2004.
S. Warhammer Chronicles 2004 pages 54-69

*****

Q. Can Regiments of Renown or Dogs of War units be joined by non-Dogs
of War Characters?

A. No.
S. Anthony Reynolds - Warhammer Design Team (Online Q&A
on the Games Workshop Warhammer Forum)

*****

Q. Can other Warhammer armies hire non-named Dogs of War characters
(i.e. Mercenary General, Hireling Wizard Lord, Paymaster, Mercenary
Captain, Hireling Wizard) as a Rare choice?

A. No, you can't field these types of Dogs of War characters unless
you're a Dogs of War army.
S. Ian Hawkes - Warhammer Design Team

*****

Q. How are named standard bearers from Regiments of Renown handled
in terms of capturing / losing standards?

A. As named standard bearers from Regiments of Renown are
classified as characters they should be handled as Battle Standard
Bearers in terms of capturing / losing banners.
S. Warhammer Chronicles 2004 page 68 / Direwolf FAQ Council
Interpretation

*****

Q. When charged by a chariot, do pike attacks go before impact hits?

A. No. The Warhammer Design Team has specifically stated that
impact hits always happen before everything else in a combat, unless
specifically noted otherwise. Therefore chariot impact hits qualify
as a being "entitled to strike first because of a special ability"
which per the rules for pikes "will still strike before pike-armed
models."
S. Gav Thorpe - Warhammer Design Team / Warhammer Chronicles 2004
page 57 / Rulebook page 128

*****

Q. When engaged in close combat with an enemy unit to their front, how
many ranks do pikeman fight in?

A. Provided the unit has enough ranks, four ranks if the unit was
stationary or three ranks if the unit charged that turn as is
outlined in the Fight In Ranks section of the Warhammer Rulebook. Note
that in cases where a pikemen unit consists of three ranks or less,
all the ranks will fight when engaged with an enemy unit to their
front, regardless of whether the unit was stationary or charged that
turn.
S. Rulebook page 89 / Warhammer Chronicles 2004 page 57

*****

Q. In the description for the Paymaster it indicates that he is
treated exactly like a Battle Standard. Is he therefore a
allowed to carry a magic banner?

A. No. The reference in the Paymaster's rules directs players to
treat the keys to the pay chest like a Battle Standard. Note that
nowhere in the Rulebook does it state that a Battle Standard
Bearer is entitled to carry a magic banner. It is the existing
Sixth Edition army books which explicitly state that Battle Standard
Bearers may carry magic banners. The Paymaster is not explicitly
given the ability to carry a magic banner in the Dogs of War army
list, therefore, he may not.
S. Warhammer Chronicles 2004 page 57 / Rulebook page 102

*****

Q. Is it legal for a living character, such as a Mercenary Captain,
to join an Undead unit (e.g. The Cursed Company)?

A. The intention of the rules is that no, Undead units cannot be
joined by non-Undead characters and vice versa.
S. Anthony Reynolds - Warhammer Design Team

*****

Q. What is the correct number of attacks for Long Drong's
Slayer Pirates?

A. Since the "Festooned With Pistols" special rule for the
unit states they "gain an additional attack because they are
fighting with a pistol in each hand", you should add 1 to the
Attacks value in the displayed statline. Thus, Long Drong has
3+1=4 Attacks and each Pirate has 1+1=2 Attacks.
S. Warhammer Chronicles 2004 page 65 / Rulebook page 91

*****

Q. Do the Dwarf special rules apply to the Dogs of War Dwarfs
as well?

A. Yes, all of the Dwarf special rules (Ancestral Grudge,
Relentless, and Resolute) apply to Dwarf Dogs of War.
S. US White Dwarf #258 page 41

*****

Q. Does Asarnil's Dragon have an armour save?

A. Yes, 3+ Scaly Skin save like most Dragons.
S. US White Dwarf #258 page 41

*****

Q. How are VPs awarded for Asarnil and his Dragon?

A. Asarnil is worth 130 VPs, his Dragon is worth 330 VPs.
S. US White Dwarf #258 page 41

*****

Q. Are all models with names counted as characters (for example,
Asarnil's Dragon, the Giants of Albion) for challenges, etc.?

A. No only the leader counts (Asarnil and Hengist), in the cases
you mentioned.
S. US White Dwarf #258 page 41

*****

Gotrek and Felix?

S. Warhammer Annual 2002 page 64

I've save this info into a PDF to give to people wanting the rules.
Stickied!
Can we add the year to this FAQ? Because it was released in 6th ed, and arguably some of these have now been covered off in 7th ed rules (or at least some can interpret them as such).
All of these mentions in the FAQ's are dated when 6th edition was out. I see none that have been overruled by 7th edition rulebook.
Some people have argued that because 7th edition has come out, they are no longer valid. They form such an argument because:
1/ The 6th edition book did not mention anything about friendly characters joining friendly units, the 7th does (and allows it).
2/ This then leads some to assume that because the 7th ed book was out after the 6th ed FAQ, that this then allows non-Dogs of War characters to join Dogs of War or Regiment of Renown units.
We have had such discussions over on W-E, and some will always disagree unless GW bring out a 7th ed FAQ...
It's simple, unless you are running a Dogs of War army your heroes cannot join a Regiment of Renown unit.

You could try emailing GW the rules question, they claim they respond in 3 days. I've been waiting weeks for responses I sent, but they may not like me.
You are right - it is relatively simple, and I guess it does come up more from the perspective of players from non-Dogs of War armies.

And GW are notorious (at least in my experience) with giving not the greatest answers to such things, so I am going to save them and I time...
I sent a few questions down there just to see what silliness they come up with.

The one I really want to see them explain comes from the Tomb Kings book.

It says if the Hierophant dies ALL UNDEAD units start to crumble. The question was what happens if they were playing another undead army like Vampire Counts. I just wanted to make their heads explode.
Thread now 100% stickier.
How do you get it stickier than stickied?
Mix some glue with crushed hobbit.
Q. Does Asarnil's Dragon have an armour save?

A. Yes, 3+ Scaly Skin save like most Dragons.
S. US White Dwarf #258 page 41

Does anyone has this in PDF? I mean the photocopy of that page?
It's posted on the Direwolf site, GW has no Dogs of War FAQ's on their site at this time.
I put the 3+ scalyskin in my armylist... the jury wants to see the PDF...

Direwolf? I am on the prowl...
Direwolf took all public rulings (White Dwarf, the old GW Forums, questions with game developers) and assembled them in one spot.

that saves a lot of time. Smile Youre brilliant Bilbo!
list approved Smile with scaly skin.

thanks Bilbo!
Q. Where can I find the rules for the Regiment of Renown,
Mengil's Manflayers?

A. In White Dwarf Magazine
S. September 2004 Issue of White Dwarf Magazine (US #296 / UK #297)

I've got the 297 UK copy in my hands... no mengil's
They are in UK 298, the FAQ is inaccurate (oh, the irony). I'll fix it.
There was a pdf available on GW's website for them.

Yes, the Hobbit Library has it.
I already have the PDF, thanks to a certain Hobbit librarian.

It is just that printed by myself is not the same as showing the real thing.. WD 298 aye? the irony indeed Wink
For the rules, a cannon is considered a Rare Choice, and it says that each model is 85 points (with its crew of 3). Does this mean that you could take as many cannons as you can afford, under the one "Rare Choice" selection; or, does this mean that each cannon counts as a "Rare Choice" selection? Could you take 4 cannons, or only 2 (at the most) for an army under 3,000 coins?
Also, can we hire an Engineer, to make each cannon more efficient? Would he be a Rare Choice?
Thank you for the clarifications you might be able to give me!
Each cannon takes up a rare slot. So a max of 1 under 2000 points, 2 in 2000-2999, etc.
There's no Engineer we can get at all.

Thank you, someone2040, for your concise and clear explanation. Those rules had confused me for awhile, so my friends and I just played by "house rules." Now, we know!

It's too bad we can't get an Engineer, but I guess then maybe our armies would be unbeatable!
