No one knows Raven's true name. What is known of her past is that she grew between in a small Bretonnian village near Athel Loren. One night her village was attacked by a band of raiding Beastmen, and she was forced to flee. Her mother helped her up on the last horse just before the stable was surrounded. She rode towards Athel Loren, the light from the burning houses in her village becoming less clear as she rode further towards the forest.
She was found sleeping next to a tree in the morning by a Wood Elf couple. They had lost their own child in a Beastmen attack earlier that year, and decided to adopt the helpless little girl as their own. She was suffering from shock and they were unable to get her to give them her name. They decided to call her Raven after her jet-black hair.

Raven was taught in the art of stealth and archery and was an excellent student. At the age of 19 she left her foster parents and Athel Loren and traveled to Tilea, were she joined the mercenary armies as a sentry, scouting out enemy positions and reporting their locations to the general.
One day, she was given a very important mission by her employer, to sneak into the enemy camp and eliminating an enemy commander. She and a few other men were assigned the dangerous task, and during the night they entered the enemy camp. However, just as they approached the tent of the commander, they were discovered by the guards and had to flee.
They were soon surrounded and had to fight their way out. Raven still felt obliged to finish her mission, and could in the distance make out the silhouette of the general shouting orders to his men in the distance. She took the shot, hitting him in the eye, killing him instantly. The soldiers were so shocked by the death of their commander that they stopped fighting, which gave Raven the time she needed to escape.

Upon her return, she was richly awarded by her employer. Raven then left the service of the army, and traveled the Old World recruiting the best archers and foresters she could find and founded Raven’s Rangers. On the battlefield, they are expert scouts, taking out the enemy's war machines and fast cavalry, as well as any commander unfortunate to come within range of her bow.

Code:
M   WS   BS   S   T   W   I   A   Ld
Raven  4     5     6    3   3    2   6   3    8
Ranger 4     4     4    3   3    1   4   1    7

Unit size: 5-20
Equipment: Two hand weapons, longbows and light armour.

Special Rules:

Skirmish

Scout

Unseen: The Rangers are adept at hiding in the terrain, using their cloaks as camoflauge. As long as they are within wooded terrain they are an additional -1 to hit with missile weapons.

Expert woodsmen: The Rangers are very adept at using the terrain to their advantage. While in wooded terrain, they benefit from the Always Strike First special rule in the first round of combat as they ambush their enemies.

Eagle Eye: Raven is an expert archer, able to pick out any one in a crowd. She may target any model in a unit, with a –1 to hit for firing at single models. She may always choose a different target from the one chosen by her unit. Furthermore, if a 6 is rolled when rolling to hit, that shot will wound automatically with no armour save allowed. Note that this only applies to missile attacks.

Dodge: Raven is very agile and quick to react to her surroundings. Enemies must re-roll successful hits against her in close combat.

For Hire: Raven and 4 Rangers cost a total of 160pts. They may be taken as a special choice in a Dogs of War army. Additional Rangers may be added for an additional 16pts per model.

This is how I made my unit of Raven's Rangers.

I figured Raven would show up sooner or later.
Well of course, this one I already had most the fluff for (thanks), and I also had the rules on my comp. The others I will have to dig up through my memory.
Well you should have saved them as pdfs like I did with mine.
Yep, should have but didn't. I will now.
Brilliant fluff and figure as well!
I'm not sure that the rangers should get all the special rules though, afterall they've only had second hand elven training. Maybe just the Unseen rule, while Raven gets the whole lot! At the moment they'd beat waywatchers on their own turfTongue Odviously their price would drop signifiantly.
She's a good teacher.

Plus there should be humans with those abilities.

Or the unit could be halflings, oh wait then they would get a bunch of 2's in stat line.

I have been thinking about this as well. However, unlike the Waywatchers, these guys may not deploy within 10" of the enemy, nor do they get Killing Blow on all their shots. Unseen is the same for both of them. Where these guys are better than Waywatchers is in combat. And since they're humans and not Wood Elves, they should be imo. Waywatchers are specialized at shooting, while the Rangers can do both Smile
Obviously being a wood elf player i'm biased Angel

One thing i would like to point out is that the unseen rule doesn't say if the -1 is against shooting, close combat or both. I know its likely to be against shooting but i thought it should be clearer.
Logically that would be against shooting.
Ah, good of you to mention it. If you find any irregularities in anything, please report them, and I'll fix it. Unlike GW, I can actually patch things and write FAQ's that makes sense Big Grin
Also decided to remove the killing blow first round of combat. Technically, killing blow is when you cut someone's head off, while these guys are more like backstabbers.
FAQ that make sense, novel concept.
Looks like a good unit.
I can see why you went all human instead of my foolishly suggested Elf/human mix unit.
Ah you removed the killing blow! It probably isn't needed anyway as any likely troops that have been sent to clear out the rangers won't have the armour to need killing blow to get past.
I've decided i like the ASF on the first round of combat, you can just picture them leaping out from cover Smile
That was my thought exactly. The enemies charge them, they back into the forest, the enemy runs past them, and more or less get ambushed in the rear or flank. The charger becomes the charged, therefore the ASF.
Sneaky Elven Tactic.

She learned her lessons well.
Updated with a pic of the full unit.
Hurray.

Now to get her rules to be allowed in offical games.

Like that will happen. Big Grin
Yeah, not to likely.

But at least anyone (ie, me Big Grin) who wants to use her rules and make their own unit can do so.

I'll give this unit a playtest, maybe this sunday, and let you know how it fares.
Hey again M! How it go? I still have a beef with the fluff but hey at least the minis look good! Good job on them btw
Haha, yeah I remember that discussion Tongue

I'm more of a rules writer than a fluff writer, I'd rather leave that to others... and then copy their work, muhahaha!
