Hey all, haven't posted too much recently, there is a tourney coming up and I am thinking of running a pure Kislev list as I reckon that at under 2000pts the lack of magic protection won't bother me too much.

Here is what I have written up

Heroes
Boyar heavy armour, shield, warhorse, sword of might
-126

Boyar standard bearer, war banner, heavy armour, warhorse
-154

Core
9 Winged Lancers, full command
-256

5 Winged Lancers, musician
-128

5 Winged Lancers, musician
-128

5 Winged Lancers, musician
-128

5 Horse Archers, musician
-92

12 Kossars, musician
-116

10 Kossars, musician
-98

Special
9 Gryphon Legion, full command
-274

So, what are people's opinions? I figure that obviously the 2 boyars join the two main hammer units and try to smash things up in conunction with a small unit, other small unit and horse archers annoy and take out warmachines, kossars sit back and shoot, this is all the cavalry I own so kossars are there mainly to fill points and give some range to the army, thinking about buying 10 more horse archers or something though to replace them, then i think it could be quite scary

Help me out here, Winged Lancers used to cause Panic 'as if the unit had been charged in the side or rear while engaged in the front'? Does that actually have any effect anymore, as the above example of how the rule functions no longer exists? I am working from memory, just trying to understand the strengths of the force.
Basicly the WL cause panic. Just GW put an example in the rule that no longer is up to date. So....open for discussion.

when I read the list I am just wondering.... 2 hammer units... I see 9 lancers... so where is the 2nd hammer unit? Just wondering of course.

It is a very fast list... getting you very fast into trouble and it is going to make you do what kislevites do best: dying in droves.

Like al other human armies kislev needs something that makes them "harder" then they are now. Bretonnian; Lance, Empire; great cannons, Dogs of War; Dragon and ogres for hire, etc. Kislev has none...So use the movement you have wisely, it is all you have.
When playing Kislev with less then 1000 points the "magic doesn't matter" rule works. At 1500 points you could get in trouble. But youre fast, more then 1 or 2 turns of magic missiles and your totaly in combat with all troops Smile

It's a nice list. I would play it.. Wink if I only had painted kossars
Lol, I forgot I have 9 Gryphon Legion in as well, just didnt write them down. Yeah, I'm hoping the speed will keep magic and ranged troops off me, but it I agree that I will be pulling models off the table in droves. I agree with you saying that Kislev need something to make them harder, typically Dogs of War and Ogre mercs, (as in, Dogs of War and Ogres in other lists) are banned at tourneys but I have 2 of the Tsar model and I was thinking of asking for an exception and putting them in as a maneater unit, they would then replace the kossars, and I would have 34 points to play with, maybe 2 more horse archers?

Yeah Shane, I was not sure about that either, but I assumed that the "as being charged in the flank" was an example and that otherwise the rule is just that when you charge they test for panic, although against the "top 3" armies i think it will be almost useless due to ld9 or immune to psychology.

Thanks for the advice

Liam
On the list of things that are more or less immune to panic, don't forget that the Lizards will be Ld8 on 3d6, Skaven are a base Ld 9 army, and Warriors of Chaos can re-roll failed panic
nice list nice list
why don't you give war banner to gyrphon legion rather than BSB. then your general boyar will join them and makes them stubborn and they get +1 CR while other boyar (BSB) will join other lancer (9 winged lancers ) so they can also get an additional +1 CR so you got two lancer stubborn squadrons with +1 addition CR and heroes. good chargers. i tried that tactic many times with offical Kislev army list.

and about glorious charge description there is a FAQ (Direwolf Kislevite Allied Contingent FAQ v7.01) :

Q. How are we to interpret the "Glorious Charge" rule with the
release of the 7th edition of the Warhammer ruleset?

A. The FAQ Council recommends that the "Glorious Charge" rule be
interpreted as follows:

"Any unit charged by a unit of Winged Lancers (or Gryphon Legion)
with a Unit Strength of 5 or more must take a Panic test."

Ignore the remainder of the text of the rule as it simply referred to
an example of a Panic test which occurred in the 6th edition of the
ruleset and is no longer applicable.

Interpretation
Ah, that's good. It would be rough if their entire special rule was nullified by a bad example.
There is a lot of cavalry here!
I'm always too cautious when it comes to cavalry units: no ranks, no outnumber... They DO have armour save, not to mention their speed, but... I don't know..
My suggestion would be: Put those Kossars together (all 22) and with a tactical 'reform' take the most out of their ranks! With a bow and a great weapon, that's what they suppose to do Wink
(When they engage into combat, charge the enemy's flank with your five knights and.... I smell victory Tongue )
meanwhile unfortunately all these medium cavalry charges will wasted by one Black Guard unit with ASF banner Sad(
especialy if they are supported with CoB near them and Master in them with some shining stuff or giving master a cold one (which makes the unit Fear) etc etc

Here is an another advice;
for some flexibilty for hard hitting you can add one additional boyar and combine two winged lancers for one additional 9 hard hitter winged lancers and give your BSB boyar sword of battle for +1 attack. and instead of giving sword of might to general boyar give him lance and enchanted shirld for some addtional armor save (AS 2+).

so you will have;
9 full command Gryphon Legion with war banner including general boyar with enchanted shield
9 full command Winged Lancers including BSB boyar with sword of battle
9 full command Winged Lancers including boyar

three stubborn medium cavarly which will cause panic when they charge.

to fit suitable points reduce number of kossars.

meanwhile to remain loyal to offical (at least semi offical, very few give permission to field Stand alone kislev army even they are the weakest of the weaks Sad( ) kislev army list have some house made modifications (instead of giving them additional special rules).

i made them while working on my unoffical kislev army list. Here is the step by step guide. Each step is one step away to offical list so keep that in your mind. here is the link of the post:
