Team battle.
Good team: High Elves & Lizardmen
Evil team: Dark Elves & Dogs of War
Scenario:
To control 3 objectives spaced out along the centre of the table. Each if worth 1 point (the middle one is worth 2 points) if held at the end of the turn uncontested. Each is about 5x8”.
I won’t go into all the details because I can’t ember everything. I’ll give you the gist of it.
I brought 2 unbreakable units (slayers pirates & cursed company) and a horde of marauders with great weapons (containing the Paymaster) to hold objectives. 3 units of duellists with pistols, 2 units of light cav with bows and a level 4 wizard on a Pegasus for harassment. I also had 5 war machines (2 canon, 2 hot pot and a hewer) and 40 crossbows for shooting support from afar.
Objective 1 (right)
I used the slayers to take the first objective. They fought off a chariot while the hewer hit a 9 wide unit of High Elf swordmasters in the flank removing them from the objective. My Pegasus wizard used the pike of remas to block off a big unit of High Elf silver helms while the slayers got into position to receive them. Duellists and Dark Elf shades populated the surrounding buildings providing shooting support. The cursed company were headed for this objective but diverted to objective 2 when it became apparent we would have no trouble holding objective 1 but, the cursed company were hit I the flank by a High Elf hero who fled the above mentioned unit of silver helms. We held this objective most of the game.
Right hill (over looking objectives 1 & 2)
This hill contained 2 units of 10 crossbows, the hewer, 2 Dark Elf bolt throwers and a hot pot. At the start of the game some pesky skinks through some special ability were deployed behind our hill. I though they would be killed by the firth Dark Elf bolt thrower crew they attacked. No. They panicked a unit of crossbowmen, beat the hot pot and then 2 Dark Elf bolt throwers in combat! We grossly underestimated 10 WS2 skinks. The hill was cleared of all units except the hewer. The skinks, a lizard swarm and a sarus cavalry champion all charged the hewer at the highest point on the hill. Malakai (King of the Hill) Makkaisson beat them all back. Although the hewer did miss it’s shot on the 2 turn thus missing it’s chance to put big damage on a horde of 50 High Elf spearmen.
Objective 2 (middle)
Traffic issues between my marauder horde, the Dark Elf spearmen horde and a panicked unit of crossbowmen caused delay moving toward the objective which the 50 High Elf spearmen took early. The High Elf spearmen beat the marauders and paymaster running them down. 1 canon crew panicked, not bad. The Dark Elf spearmen took on the High Elf spearmen next, but the Dark Elves were beaten too as were a unit of 2 Dark Elf crossbowmen with a level 4 Dark Elf Wizard. However, we did manage to draw the High Elf spearmen away from the objective. The objective was them secured by 20 odd Dark Elf black guard who fought off a unit of saurus. We held this objective for the ext few turns but lost it in the last turn to some pesky skinks and terradons.
The forest (set back between objectives 2 & 3)
Here I placed my 2 cannon and a hot pot. Another unit of Dark Elves deployed here but I forget what if was. This forest was set upon by 2 stegadon and 2 great eagles. The canon misfired, the hot pot missed. The war machine assaulted and destroyed. A bad day for my war machines.
Objective 3 (left)
I had few forces at this objective save for 10 crossbowmen on the hill and 10 more in the watch tower surrounded by boiling water and 10 duellists. The dualists were the ones to discover the boiling water. They took 4 casualties, panicked and fled. The watchtower was hit with a fire spell from a pesky skink priest and the remaining crossbowmen were evicted with rock dropped by terradons. The objective was held by us briefly by the valiant efforts for 20 Dark Elf witches and their Battle Standard. They managed to fight through a block of saurus with a slann priest, a lizard swarm and some more skinks. We lost this objective to the lizards towards the end of the game to the overwhelming presence of lizardmen and pesky High Elf bolt thrower fire.
The score at the end:
Evil team 7
Good team 4
(I think)
I’m sure I’ve left some stuff out, but you get the gist of the battle.
Stuff I learned this game:
High elves do not flee easily, and their reroll hits ability is just annoying.
Any unit which get behind my gunline is ENEMY NUMBER 1. We allowed those skinks to run riot for far too long.
A great day had by all.
