Hey all, just a start on Easterlings. Here is my one and only Cataphrakt so far. He'll eventually be joined by the rest of his unit (these guys are the goldswords of WotR). Comments welcome!

Hey all, finally picked up a box of Easterling infantry to get my force rolling in earnest. Aside from everything else being metal in the army (not counting the mumak) it turns out that the box is divided into 3 infantry types. It also only contains 20 troops instead of 24 like most other infantry boxes. You get a whopping 4 pikemen, and then 8 each of swordsmen and archers. To even get one full unit of pikes that will be 4 more boxes of Easterlings. Not too big of a problem since I don't plan on using too many metal units, but still quite annoying. In any case, I also picked up some movement trays which I'll be magnetizing as well. It shouldn't take too long to get that first batch of Easterlings finished so expect some pics soon.
LotR sets are usually good at balancing the troops in the box since the rules state only 1/3 the models can be armed with missile weapons.

I do like your Easterling. I usually use Dwarves or Mordor in LotR.
Easterlings: The Dogs of War of WotR
Except the mercenaries part, the Khandish Mercenaries fill in that part Smile
Looking good with the Easterling Slick. I really need to work more on my LOTR stuff... just haven't done much since I finished one tray of them.

Thanks, I should have my first batch of infantry to go along with this guy soon.
Hey all, a quick WotR update here. I decided on magnetizing all of my movement trays for WotR. While most of the plastic ones basically lock into place and you can move them around without any tipping over etc, I'm going with this route to keep transporting them simple as I plan on transporting them in companies, ready to go. It'll also come in handy so that they'll stay on the trays while they're being transported, especially the metal stuff (aka 90% of the Easterlings range lol). Comments welcome!

Good idea. I played LotR but not WotR so the trays won't help. If I do decide to play WotR I'll probably make my own movement tray, but that is how I roll. Smile
that's a nice transport trey slick
Small update for the Easterlings. Picked up Dalamyr Fleetmaster of Umbar as my Epic Hero. Eventually I'm going to replace him with either the Serpent Lord of Khamul but for now he's a cheap leader to use. Hoping to pick up another infantry box or two soon.
Lord of the Rings I use cheap heroes and lots of troops. The 50 models max @ 500 points rule is there for a reason and I like hitting it whenever I can. Trust me if they didn't have that rule I would be running the 125 model Hobbit army. Big Grin
Hey all, time for another WotR update. I picked up Dalamyr Fleet Master of Umbar as my first epic hero. I like his epic posion ability for rerolls and the caltrops to negate enemy charge bonuses. He was pretty fun to paint as well and didn't take all that long. Now I'll have to bulk out my infantry forces quite a bit. Comments welcome!

Looks good but the second and third shot could have been don better. They seem to have focused on the background.
I like that fleet master model.

The rider I think needs the red a bit brighter.
The bestial brown on the horse is a reddish colour and tends to blur with the red as soon as the lighting is different (shade) or if looking at the model from a distance. (at least that seems to me when I am looking at my cataphrakts)
Good thing I didn't use Bestial Brown then Wink

The shots could have been better but then again the camera is dying. If you don't like it...
There was a Golden Demon Dalamyr which I saw (after painting mine) which is quite simply amazing - leagues above GW's example. I wish I had 1/10 of that skill. Check on coolminiornot or just google Dalamyr.

I actually met the guy who painted that model, and seen it irl. He is Swedish Big Grin
I like the Dalamyr, the purple is gorgeous. I would be tempted to rename him Picard though Tongue

Thanks, indeed Picard!

I subscribe to the same philosophy - and nothing scares your opponent more than mulitple mumaks than seeing about 50 Dunland Warriors at 500 points.
48 Wood Elves in Lord of the Rings can do the same thing.
That Dalamyr model is nice Slick Smile
Thanks, sadly I sold off my Easterlings. I just didn't feel like spending an insane amount of money on the metal cavalry models.
