Alright, two of my test models, a Light Cavalry man and a Berserker.

Helmets are going to be a big part of this army, with all of my light cavalry wearing the bowl shaped helmets, and my more elites wearing the larger, more ornate ones.

These are my Berserkers, so far I have 15 of them, and they are stand-ins for Norse. As I say bellow, I wanted an altogether look for the army, with only a few irregular troops. My idea here was for a group of battle hardened warriors who literally threw themselves into a frenzy, and as an additional attempt to distinguish them, I gave this first one some face paint, which is the two whit strips on either side of the face.

I am not sure if I am going to give them all the same facepaint design, or change it from one to another. I also played around with the idea of making the paint blue, but don't want to get to 'Braveheart' with them.

Lastly, the bases on these are not painted yet. Each of the models has a textured, soft stone road beneath them, which I am hoping to paint a very light sandy colour, to make it seem like the army is marching along a road or through a town center.
YEY! Big Grin What's the theme of it going to be?

I wanted to make a mercenary 'army', as opposed to just a collection of mercenary units, so there is a similiar paint and style scheme for the 'regular' force, with several unique groups as well, which are 'irregular' troops, like the Paymasters guard, who are hired by the Paymaster to protect himself in battle.

Unfortunately, after realizing I don't really know how to post pics here, I found out my computer is a little touchy about posting pictures anywhere, so this may just take a bit longer than I thought....
Shane, you will need to upload your pictures to a filesharing host such as photobucket or imageshack to share pictures on the internet.
Once uploaded, you can just get the links for those images and post them in the topic using the regular image tags.
Thanks! As soon as i can get my computer working I will make that happen.
The light cavalry horse (model) looks like a shire horse to me... but the painting is excellent, bravo.

The berserker looks like a light armour great sword. When I think beserker, I think half naked barbarian. So marauders chaos or Norse either are good... The man is to proper dressed to be a "berserker" although I have to admit, beserk is a state of mind...

The facial paint (white, grey) will look unfinished instead of facial paint... try contrasting colours to the painting scheme. Brown, bronze, red are "warm" colours. try, Yellow, green, bleu as facial paint colours... those will stand out more.
Heads without the head gear will look more "beserk" than this is my personal taste and opinion...

(I make thess comments to give you thoughts of where to improve, not to break you down.... The models you show are by all means excellent executed. Well done Shane, very well done.)

cheers

Thanks. The actual Norse Marauders start with Light armour, we are just so used to seeing them running around naked we forget that is how they are.

And I think I am going to break down and do blue for the facepaint.
Looking good!
