I picked up the jumbo Wargames Terrain Set from GW and I must say I'm impressed despite the price. Did I mention the price? $120 regular, on sale for $99, -$27 in points - $77 after discountsThe set includes 3 huge tree bases, a sect of ruins, a modular hill which can be arranged in 2 different ways or each used separately, and a large 1-piece gaming hill - all in plastic, oh, the set also includes two tubs of static grass/flock

Yep thats right, all of the terrain needs to be painted/flocked - nothing premade here...

lots and lots of sprues to assemble

Note the size of the forest bases - only 3 trees each but theyll still take up a lot of board space which is nice, also bottom center is the base of the ruins - good objective for scenarios

So it turns out I'm out of black primer... was going to basecoat all the terrain last night... so I'll have to pick up a can today - should be able to basecoat everything in one night

Got everything basecoated - took about 1/2 the primer can should be able to assemble it all tonight & pics to followone thing to note - the crappy design of the small pillars for the ruins - half of em fit together perfectly, the others just do not match up, surprising since their plastics have been topnotch lately

Everything has been basecoated, all of the trees have been assembled.

Here is a pic of the large hill - painted and flocked - took about an hour

One of the tree bases fully assembled with one of the trees having the foliage attached (I'll get the other two done soon) - next step is painting & flocking the base, then the painting the trees

All of the trees are based - just need to paint the other 6 trees - going to leave the others without foliage as it breaks off far too easily

Modular Hill

As you can see there are two differnet types of static grass here. I ran out of the darker one (thanks GW for not providing enough to finish the terrain in the box) and ended up buying a lighter color. I tried blending it a little bit as I dont feel like going back and redoing that whole section.

Tree Bases
[Image: DSC02442.JPG]

Finished all 3 tree bases for the forests. These are perhaps the best part of the whole scenery box - great looking forests with removable trees so its not a hassle moving units through them.

Pic of one stand with finished trees inserted. Can't wait to see these all on the tabletop.

Ruined Temple

Base of the temple with skull in center. Works great as its own piece or you can add any number of the other temple pieces.

A closer shot - still need to touch the skull up a little and a lil work on the stone.

Base with monolith inserted. I decided to paint the inside of the monolith dark green - I'll be painting in some runes and symbols later on as opposed to gluing in the provided skulls etc - it will make it look a little more customized I think.

Side view of the temple

Closeup view of the entrance

Extreme closeup - I think painting some runes on the monolith will look great especially for someone walking in the front entrance.

Well , that concludes this terrain blog as I've completed the entire GW scenery box now. Overall, I'd rate this kit as 9/10. Everything is excellent here from the forests and hills to the ruined temple. This is a onestop way to have an entire table's worth of terrain in one set. I don't give it a perfect score because it is a really expensive set ($120) although you could easily spend that much on similar terrain. I also didn't like some of the temple pieces as they just wouldn't glue together properly so you will see some gaps here and there in the temple columns. Definitely room for improvement there GW. The other issue is the amount of static grass they provide you with. I did all 3 forests with the scorched grass and there is plenty left (probably not enough to do one of the hills. I used the glade grass (?) to do the regular hill and it got me about half of one piece of the modular hills. They should either provide more of the static grass types that are included or add a 3rd container of static grass.
Managed to get another piece of terrain finished. This time the well for Warhammer Fantasy. This is the 3rd and last piece of terrain from my FW order and it feels good to knock those three out of the way so I can move on to tanks, tanks, tanks! (Especially with the Guard codex just around the corner ...). I decided to leave the roof of the well unglued so that I can field it with or without to change things up a bit. There is a pic of it without the roof towards the bottom. I still need to touch up the water in the well and trough a bit. I like the little details on the sides of the roof frame. Still need to paint the crank for the well but that won't take much time at all. As always comments and questions are welcome!

I really like the cool little guardian statue on this side.

The view without the roof.

Finished up another Forgeworld piece. This was a blast to paint and there is just so much detail in these pieces. The ammo bunker will be a great terrain piece for city fight and apocalype games. Questions and comments welcome!

Only back for a few days but I already managed to get one of my Forgeworld pieces finished. This is the bloomery for fantasy. It is a nice little terrain piece and a good way to ease into working with resin. I took the time to paint the individual wood grain to make the wood stand out a bit. You'll notice also the mud puddle off to the side - I used some water effects on that which really makes it look like... mud. As always questions and comments are welcome!

Picked up both of these really cheap - there are close to 30 trees in that bag, all for about $15. Quite a steal and it'll go towards some future terrain projects Smile

Also picked up this little terrain piece which lets you make two sections of barbed wire fence. Also very cheap.

This terrain manufacturer seems to be German-based and the fold-out catalog that came with the fence set has some fantastic other terrain pieces available! Definitely worht checking out and they have a website as well. Look for it in the links section.
I'm making steady progress on finishing the river. I'm surprised at how quickly its actually going. Here is a WIP pic of the river thus far. Still plenty of work left to do.

Finished the river today, only thing left is to add some static grass along the shorelines. Enjoy!

Here are a couple of shots of the first resin swamp I finished. I added a layer of the Citadel Water Effects and it turned out pretty nice. I'm probably gonna go back and add another layer or two. Also, the shoreline will get some static grass. Seeing as this one didn't take too long to paint, I'll try to get the other two done as well.

Picked this up from JR Miniatures for about $20. A nice resin terrain piece.

Finished up the new walls and fences set - another good GW terrain product, you get a ton of pieces.

Here are some shots of ruined city terrain I picked up from Armorcast a few years back. Lots and lots of buildings and ruined buildings. I basically just primed it black and then followed up with a stone texture spray paint - quickest and most effective way to get all of that done.

Here are a couple of shots of some 40k terrain that I have. An Eldar monument - got that from an old White Dwarf. The other is a nice lil sandbag bunker I picked up cheap

I decided to finish up some older terrain that I had laying around.

Large wooden bridge - lots of epic struggles have taken place to control this.

That modular hill looks like the one that was sold in the Battle of Five Armies set. It was Lord of the Rings meets Warmaster.

Nah , straight up terrain box. Sadly my one forgeworld piece got warped due to heat. I'm gonna have to try and bend it back now. Damn resin!
I'm so frickin' jealous right now. Those temple ruins look awesome, and that bag o' trees is better stocked than my local Christmas Tree lot. I've got a couple of trees waiting for placement and a sheet of "pink stuff" insulation to work with. So much to do, so little space to work with.
They are nice pieces of terrain to use in games.
Thanks guys, I'll be getting the new plastic chaos temple terrain piece that GW just released. That thing is HUGE and fairly cheap too.
the chaos temple must be one of the best value for money sets that gw have brought out in the last few years, i just bought one and the sectional gaming boards that came out a while back my local independant retailer let me have it with a 1/3 of the price as she could not sell it,patience pays dividends Smile
Hi all, time for a new terrain project. I managed to pick up this massive castle (on par with GW's) for a really good deal, about $15 in fact! This will be fun to use in campaigns and siege scenarios. Check back for some progress updates on this beast.

Absolutely! Nice VC on your blog as well!
Hello all, Slick here. It's been a while since I posted anything for terrain. Well, our local store just stocked some of this awesome pre-painted terrain. While I already have quite a bit of river it never hurts to have more. Especially when you don't have to take forever painting it. There are different river sets, with straight sections, bends, and islands. I picked up the island set as u can see. You get a bout 3 feet of river in roughly three twelve inch sections. These are made from a hard rubber and do have some flex to them. You can drop these and not worry about it (unlike with the resin river I have). The pieces look just like they do on the box, except for flock, which you can add if you so choose. All of the river sets are going for $25. Not a bad deal in my opinion.
